Omari Bryan and his mother Maureen felt ‘compelled’ to do something after the building owner ignored the poor conditions of the home, where his 88-year-old grandfather had lived for three years. Since Omari is a filmmaker, he saw the opportunity to expose the terrible conditions elderly people were having to live in and give them a voice to speak out about it.

Unacceptable
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have written about a shocking story of rat infestation in a care home. I’m sure after watching the video (above), you like us are absolutely disgusted that such poor living conditions are offered to elderly people. Rat infestations are common in damp environments.
Rat bites and scratches can cause disease which is completely unacceptable for a retirement home, with potentially frail or ill elderly people. We previously reported the death of a grandmother who suffered a terrible rat attack in her care home. No one should have to face such poor conditions with damp, unclean environment – let alone a large rat infestation.
Issues may occur such as maintenance problems in housing for the elderly, if dealt with as soon as possible the home would remain safe and healthy. However, knowingly ignoring a problem such as damp is careless and may have consequences to resident’s health.
Options besides care homes
With such shockingly low standards of care in these examples that have hit the news, it’s understandable that many are now searching for alternatives to care homes. Technology today can enable people to stay at home for as long as possible and many people in the UK are using Careline to do just that!
