National allotment week took place a few weeks ago with the aim to get people gardening. When you’re getting older you may find that pottering around in the garden becomes increasingly harder. As mobility becomes more difficult, bending down to tend the flower beds can be even more of a challenge. However, it shouldn’t stop you, that’s why we’ve chosen our five favourite gardening tools to help you or your loved one remain in the garden.
Rolling Garden Seat
A rolling garden seat will make tending to borders much easier. The cart is sturdy and saves having to get up and own which will be a lot easier on the joints. The height of the seat is adjustable so it will suit a range of heights, one of the only criticisms with this seat is that you are not able to steer it.
Electric Secateurs
This tool makes pruning easier than ever. This tool is perfect for people who might find their grip strength is not what it used to be as pruning will now be effortless. The tool can be used like normal secateurs, but it is also very well equipped to deal with thicker branches too, making it very versatile. One thing to remember is these are slightly bulkier than traditional secateurs so if you are of the smaller frame you may look to buy lever assisted secateurs instead.
Raised Beds
Raised flower beds can be easily made by a loved one or a local handyman. Alternatively, Amazon also stocks a raised bed that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It’s perfect for growing a range of things, from strawberries to tomatoes, along with plants and flowers. This means no more bending or kneeling to tend flower beds, making gardening even easier.
Garden Trolley
A garden trolley will make carrying tools and items such as soil even easier. Transporting heavy or bulkier items across the garden with ease. The trolley has good manoeuvrability and even works well in muddy and uneven terrain. The sides can be dropped to make lifting even easier whilst a metal tray makes carrying tools extremely convenient.
Weed Puller
Weeding can be a laborious task for anyone, especially when you might be finding it harder to stay active in the garden. This weed puller saves the user having to kneel and bend over when pulling out weeds, making it a much lighter task on your back. It makes getting to even a deep-rooted weed much easier.
