Everybody loves a bargain, but for older people, looking after the pennies is even more important. Older people are often on a fixed income, whether that’s State Pension, private pension, or working reduced hours. Thankfully, there are plenty of senior discounts out there.
We’ve already covered the biggest elderly discounts in UK shops and discounted days out, but in this article we’ll be looking at dining discounts for older people.
Best Dining Discounts for Older People
Lots of chain restaurants offer discounts to older diners. Plenty of others have a senior menu with reduced prices and smaller portion sizes. However, if your favourite eatery isn’t on our list, there’s nothing to stop you from asking if they offer a concession for older people. You’ve got nothing to lose!
1. Tastecard
If you dine out even semi-regularly, getting a Tastecard is a no brainer. These aren’t exclusively for seniors; however, they are definitely worth having. The Tastecard offers 50% off food or 2-for-1 meals at more than 6,000 restaurants across the UK. Both well-known chains and independent restaurants have exclusive offers with Tastecard. Cardholders can also get 50% off pizza delivery, 40% off cinema tickets, and up to 50% off loads of great days out. You can sign up for a 90-day trial for only £1. Alternatively, for the best value, choose an annual membership for £34.99.
2. Greene King
Many of the Greene King pubs across the country offer either a ‘Senior Loyalty Scheme’ or ‘Senior Menus’. With the loyalty scheme, you can receive 50% off every fourth meal. Senior menus provide manageable portions at more affordable prices. This makes a meal at Greene King a great option if you want to treat yourself without breaking the bank.
3. Local Pubs/Restaurants
Many independent pubs and country dining houses offer pensioner lunches on certain days of the week, or afternoon teas with discounted rates if you’re a certain age.
You can find out if these offers stand by calling up or checking their websites or asking around your local area. Often such places have boards outside offering these deals. There’s no harm in asking the staff, either. It could lead to an offer being introduced at a later date.
4. The Big Chains
Lots of the bigger chain restaurants run online voucher deals on websites like vouchercodes.co.uk, with savings up to 50% and other offers like free desserts. It’s really easy to find these deals if specific senior deals aren’t in place.
Don’t forget that there are also various elderly benefits that you and your friends should be receiving. These could help you afford the occasional meal out – everyone deserves a treat, after all.
