The Spring Equinox comes on March 20 and marks the beginning of Spring – so get ready for those longer days, where the sun rises earlier and the evenings begin to draw out.
Whilst we in the Northern Hemisphere we’ll be enjoying warmer days, well hopefully, those south of the equator will be heading into Autumn. As March marks the start of Spring the clocks will also go forward by an hour. This will take place on Sunday March 26 – so don’t forget!
With this in mind we have taken a moment to list the top five best things about Spring!
1 – More Daylight
As we all know, the Vernal Equinox means longer days and of course in the UK putting the clocks forward means daylight saving is in full effect! Did you know that around 70 countries participate in Daylight Saving Time?
“Advocates in support of Daylight Saving Time suggest that in addition to reducing crime and automobile accidents, extended daylight hours also improve energy conservation by allowing people to use less energy to light their businesses and homes.” – Wonderpolis
2 – Warmer Days
Technically temperatures should be on the rise, but we all know it’s not uncommon for the British weather to take a u-turn! It’s actually more likely to snow around Easter compared to Christmas, with the Met Office confirming snow has previously fallen more in March than December. Yikes!
Since the sun is stronger in March than December if it does snow it’s unlikely it’ll stick around for too long though!
3 – Less Layers
Move over chunky knits and make way for lighter layers. A perfect time to do a spring wardrobe clean and take a look at the new seasons trends which are lighter in colours and less heavy.
4 – Spring Flowers
The trees and flowers start to blossom and the countryside looks more green! The birds also start singing and lots of baby animals are about, particularly lambs which are associated with the Spring Image.
5 – Easter
Finally we have Easter, which falls in April this year. A celebration that doesn’t have a fixed date like Christmas as it’s based on the Lunar Calendar. Easter is a great celebration that see’s lots of events and of-course lots of chocolate!
